Wow, a Photo!
I'm in Indianapolis now. Movement is hectic, but because I've got a stronger connection, I'll take the opportunity to upload a few things. To begin with, here is a photo of what Missia lovingly refers to as "Todd's office": my practice and study corner in Famoro's Harlem apartment.
Called Balafon, Balaphone, Bala, Balo, and Balanyi by various Mande peoples (Mandinka, Maninka, Susu, Bamanan, etc.), the 21-key heptatonic xylophone has been an object of fascination with me for several years. I would like to learn to play the instrument, but feel that my practice approach needs tweaking. This blog will document my observations, insights, and progress as I attempt to troubleshoot my practice approach and hopefully, learn to play the Mande bala.
